PHOTOGRAPHER, PAINTER, AND ART INSTRUCTOR
Born and raised on the island of Java, one of the thousand islands on the equator in the Pacific Rim, my childhood surroundings were filled with lush vegetation and bright colored flowers that bloomed all year long. In this environment, my passion for flowers and landscapes developed and blossomed. I started drawing in kindergarten and all the way through high school. After I moved to the US, I continued to draw flowers in bright bold colors and gave my drawings to friends and co-workers. One day, a co-worker suggested that I should go to college to learn drawing methods and techniques, and to learn to paint. She enrolled me in Art 101, which began my journey into the art world. Feeling empowered by this experience, I developed a desire to make beautiful drawings and paintings for the rest of my life.

But life had other plans for me. At the end of the semester, the student advisor suggested that I take Business Management degree so I could gain employment after graduation. After completing my undergraduate and graduate studies in Business Management, I went to work for corporations and the US Government. I continued to draw and paint as a diversion from the hectic pace of the business world. In my spare time, I took art classes and workshops with professional artists whose work I admired. I also explored other mediums and aspects of making arts such as pottery, fashion design, and photography.
In 2000, I went back to school and enrolled in a Graphic Design program at the Community College in Alexandria, VA. Here I developed a passion for oil painting on large canvas (48”x60”). This is the turning point when I decided to become an artist. After two years, I completed the Graphic Design program and earned an Associate Degree Summa Cum Laude. Out of curiosity and the desire to improve my skills in making arts, I continued to study painting with professional artists. The joy of making arts and the feeling of deep gratitude for the opportunity to develop and expand my creativity have motivated me to give back to society and the country I grew to love. In 2006, I volunteered to teach arts for the Fairfax County Park and Recreation Division. Since then, I have taught children and adults to draw and paint until now. In 2013, I studied abstract painting with a professional Abstract Painter for two years and experimented with watercolor, acrylics, and mixed media. I fell in love with painting abstract because of the freedom, spontaneity, originality, and intuitive process. This is to be the next phase for me.
The images on this site are representative of my work since I completed the Graphic Design program. Recently, I learned to use my experimental images to create Print-on-Demand products.
